Patient Confidentiality

The Steel City General Practice makes every effort to protect confidentiality. We realise that the main reception desks can be a little public at times and so if you wish to discuss something of a more confidential nature, please mention it to the receptionist and they will arrange for you to do so in private.

We respect your ongoing right to privacy and, in common with most Practices, we keep all of your health information confidentially stored on a secure computer system.

It is important that the NHS keeps accurate and up-to-date records about your health and treatment so that those treating you can give you the best possible care. This information may be used for management and audit purposes, however, it is usually only available to, and used by, those directly involved in your care.

We may ask at times, if you consent to information sharing with other agencies (such as out-of-hours GP services) but again this will only ever be within very strictly regulated guidelines.

You do have the right to know what information we hold about you. All information held is governed by the laws of the Data Protection Act under which the Practice is registered.

Any request for access to notes by a patient, patient’s representative, or outside body will be dealt with in accordance with the Act. Please contact the Practice Manager for further information.
